Fake Vintage Japanese Ad Characters

Take that, Mr. Sparkle! Juan Molinet has designed eight faux Japanese mascots for, as he puts it. "just for the fun of it."

Mad Mr. Men

When this came out last year I was amused because of the Mr. Men reference but I wasn't watching Mad Men at the time. Now while sitting in front of the TV and nearing the end of Season Two I remembered The Poke's take on these advertising icons. They nailed Sterling.

Sugar Smack: What Kids Crave

I know it's a damning of the food industry and how it preys on kids, but I'm so tired these days I'm pretty sure I'd eat this at breakfast. (Sugar Smack by Ron English)

Always Bet On Plaque

Marketing always makes more sense when somebody explains it to me. Though I have to question the wisdom of attaching blades to toothbrush heads. (CoBranding via Lunchbreath)

I Like Big Butt..erfingers

Erik Estrada, Charisma Carpenter and Lou Ferrigno as the Butterfinger Defense League? Oh and Sir Mix-A-Lot too - it wouldn't be half as insane without him. I love that advertising campaigns are trying their out there ideas online as it makes for some bizarre viewing. (Link via FP Marketing)

Infomercial Hell: Everyday It's The Same Old Thing

Are you tired? Overweight? Lack energy? Then do we not have the product for you. I was sure I'd run this informercial torture before or maybe I've just fallen asleep in from of the TV too often. (Informercial Hell via Urlesque)

Buh Buh Buh Buh Buh Buh, Power!

Building kick! Explosion! Tim and Eric of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! are now doing commercials for Old Spice. They are so surreal I can't imagine them ever airing on TV, but I hope they do — it will mess with people's minds. Plus it has Terry Crews from Everybody Hates Chris, the best part of that show. You're Eating Like An Olympian

Mmm, Mmm, I'm lovin' it!

Ok, it is an odd disconnect, Olympians and fast food, but I was at the Nagano Olympics (trust me, not as an athlete) and there was a McDonald's in the athlete's village and they did eat there — carbing up before competing or letting loose afterwards. But it is still funny and now I'm hungry. (Link via lunchbreath)

Logorama

An entire universe from buildings to people made out of corporate logos, replete with car chases, shootouts wild animals and natural disasters, Logorama is a tour de force of graphic design.

The Oscar-nominated animated short used at least two thousand logos in its creation and is more than worth the 14-minute runtime, which is saying something coming from a short attention span web junkie like myself.  (Hat tip to Neatorama)

Viral Marketing

This is really the kind of word of mouth advertising you could do without, but I suppose even horrible diseases need good branding. Accordingly, it appears I would enjoy Aids, but that just seems wrong. From designer Steven Lefcourt at TeeFury, so get it before its gone.

Raise A Little Hell!

It might be more appropriate to say raise a tiny bit of hell. An almost infinitesimal amount of hell, because if tossing crackers into soup is what passes for hell-raising these days, my kitchen could pass for Hades.

Oh yeah! I'm totally going to rock out my soup with some saltines! Woo!
I just don't get advertising sometimes.

MINI Extended Motorer Protection

Companies really need to think before they attach themselves to pop culture figures. BMW’s Mini is trying to tell people they should have extended motor protection for their car. You know, protection, wink wink. So out they roll (WARNING I'm totally about to spoil the above video) Paulie Walnuts to protect this amorous couple out in the woods.

Hey, when was the last time I saw Paulie out in the woods with a car? Hmm, I don't think it went so well. MINI Extended Motorer Protection: You Might Get Away With Only A Head Wound.

Britney Spears: Patient Zero

Britney Spears in the centre of the next pandemic. Surprise! I would have thought it would have been Paris Hilton.

It's actually a Chinese ad for Panadol, a cold and flu medication. So the Chinese are either celebrity obsessed or think Hollywood celebs spread disease. Probably the later. Well at least she didn't take out Johnny... oh, wait, no! Not Johnny Depp! (Link via The Daily What)

Grandma, What Informative Graphics You Have!

SlagsmÄlsklubben - Sponsored by destiny from Tomas Nilsson on Vimeo.

The tale of Little Red Riding Hood, as told by animated infographics, breaking down the route, the makeup of the woods and the nutritional value of grandma. Brilliant stuff by graphic design student Tomas Nilsson — yep, this was just as student project. Amazing. (Link via Listicles)

But it does follow the Brothers Grimm thought that the wolf was evil and we all now that neither women nor girls are willing to play the victim these days.

My, what a big bike you have! A not-so-little Red Riding Hood, rom a series of Australian shoe advertisements (go figure), re-imagining some classic fairytale heroines, including Snow White, Rapunzel and Cinderella.

Checkmate In Four Moves, Predator

Can't an Alien and a Predator just get along? The image, along with the duo playing pool and tetherball, were created by a New Zealand ad agency for the Sky TV network, for an airing of Alien vs. Predator. I suspect the ad was better than the film.
