Fast Food Final Fantasy

Ronald McDonald Sephiroth and Colonel Sanders Cloud. So the final victor will be KFC? I wouldn't have guessed. Shot by Steve Burt at the 2008 Anime Expo in Los Angeles.

Andy Burger: 15 Minutes of Flame Broiled Madness

I would totally eat at an Andy Warhol-themed burger joint or play Warhol's Angry Birds, at least until that game's 15-minutes were up. Dave MacDowell's Angry Warhol for the Warhol Reimagined show. Looking forward to seeing some of the other participants.

Super Col. Sanders Mario

There really isn't a recipe of eleven secret herbs and spices, Col. Sanders just knocks it out of special fried chicken coin boxes and out pops the KFC. It's so obvious!

From Glen Brogan, who gives a fascinatingly detailed account of the Japanese obsession with Kentucky Fried Chicken and the meaning behind Tanooki suits.

Ronald McDonald Purge

Oh sure, it implies that it was the food from McDonalds that made old Ronald toss it in an alleyway, but I don't think so. I've seen how that clown parties and it looks like he was into the same stuff as the pandas. Damn sanctimonious kid. (Not So Happy by Lora Zombie)

The Wrath Of Old Big Boy

A recreation of the hallway hammer fight from Park Chan Wook's Old Boy with all of the characters re-cast as fast food icons, by Gimetzco at Dutch Southern.

I haven't seen the film myself — it's one of those pop culture blind spots -— but I do enjoy watching fast food mascots beat on each other.

Super Sized Last Supper

Your eyes are bigger than your Last Suppers, at least according to a study of 52 of the most famous paintings of the Last Supper painted between 1000 and 2000.
“The last thousand years have witnessed dramatic increases in the production, availability, safety, abundance and affordability of food,” said Brian Wansink, a professor of marketing and applied economics at Cornell University in New York.

“We think that as art imitates life, these changes have been reflected in paintings of history’s most famous dinner.”
Over a thousand years, the size of the main dish progressively grew by 69.2%, plate size by 65.6% and bread size by 23.1%, they found.

No doubt they were looking at my collection of pop culture Last Supper parodies which are rife with fast food and  mascots for restaurant and sugar cereals.  We are what we worship.

Above: The Fast Supper by Sam Carter. "To me this has nothing to do with Christianity, it's more about the Religion of Fast Food. I felt that these commercial icons were my disciples." I've eaten at that religion.

Fast Food, Fast Times

RAD OMEN - "Rad Anthem" from Nicholaus Goossen on Vimeo.

And here I thought fast food icons were either mortal enemies or armed thugs. Turns out they just want to get wasted. Good for them!  I imagine there are some very unhappy corporate PR folks right now. (Link via BuzzFeed)

You're Eating Like An Olympian

Mmm, Mmm, I'm lovin' it!

Ok, it is an odd disconnect, Olympians and fast food, but I was at the Nagano Olympics (trust me, not as an athlete) and there was a McDonald's in the athlete's village and they did eat there — carbing up before competing or letting loose afterwards. But it is still funny and now I'm hungry. (Link via lunchbreath

I'm Going To Miseryland

Dave MacDowell's Another Perfect Day: "...the whole painting is about Miseryland, and how pop culure has mutated our mind's into fast-food."

Hmmm, I think he means that is a bad thing. But how can that be when this makes me so happy? MacDowell's work is so dense: Mickey is a rat, Donald Duck is a lech (hey, he's got no pants), Disney has his tentacles on everyone and Gollum loves Burger (Booger) King.

Grimace McSection

You are what you eat, apparently, or at least where you work. And now I know where all my McNuggets are stored.

From shirt.woot and designer Glen Brogan: "Grimace weighs over 540 pounds. He is only 25, but suffers from hypertension, Type II Diabetes, elevated cholesterol, gallstones, Gout, sleep apnea, and has recently suffered a mild heart attack."

And I'll Whisper, "Would You Like Fries With That?"

The Fast Food Watchmen are well paired with their restaurant equivalents. Ozymandias is as full of himself as The Burger King is. Jack as Rorschach? Well, the face matches well. The Taco Bell Chihuahua as Doctor Manhattan makes sense, as I could see their food having the power to destroy the world. Wendy as the Silk Spectre II is obvious, being the only female fast food mascot. Ronald McDonald as The Comedian is perfect, a nihilist pushing his burgers onto the world and Colonel Sanders as Nite Owl II, a past-his-prime, impotent shlub.  (Link via Funktards)

Shawarma Initiative

From the shawarma outlet at Dharma food court. Buy it soon, if only to piss off all the people at TeeFury who are so confused and angry about Lost references and Middle Eastern food options.

Insane Clown Last Supper

The Last Supper is the image that keeps on giving. Today's iteration, evil, murderous clowns. Here's who I can identify:

(L-R): Joker (Jack Nicholson), Joker (Ceaser Romero), Joker (Heath Ledger), Krusty the Clown (The Simpsons), ?, Captain Spaulding (House of 1000 Corpses), Pennywise (It), Saw clown, Jack in the Box (fast food mascot), a jack-in-the-box, Homey D. Clown (In Living Color), John Wayne Gacy, Ronald McDonald.

So I don't recognize the clown with the KFC bucket in front of him, sitting in the traditional Judas spot. Perhaps he is betraying the Christ figure/Pennywise by being good. Anyone know who that is?

I also question Krusty's inclusion, unless it is actually the evil Talking Krusty Doll. In any case, he's at least Jewish. (Link via Dark Vomit, by way of Super Punch and Zeray Gazette)

Fast Food Kills

Meet the Fast Food Mafia: Ron 'The Don' McDonald, 'The Colonel' Sanders, "Little" Caesar, 'Wendy' Gwendolen, B.K. 'The King'. You could almost envision it if health concerns drove junk food underground. Anytime you prohibit something, it creates a black market. From pop artist Andrew Shirey. (Link via The Daily What)

Now it turns out that yesterday was National Junk Food Day and I missed it. Lucky for me I ended up celebrating it anyhow. But Listicles was paying attention and pulled together 20 Pieces of Junk Food Art. These are a couple of my favourites.
