The Exorcist In 60 Seconds

The scene with the priests sipping tea is my favourite. Creator Lee Hardcastle is trying to raise money to make more 60 second remakes of cult films. A fine cause if there ever was one. (Link via Laughing Squid)

Worf Is Beautiful, No Matter What They Say

Actually, that's not true at all — Klingons should never wear makeup. By Joshua and Nathan Flynn and won ‘Best Stop Motion’ award category of the 2009 University of Glamorgan Glammies Awards. (Link via Neatogeek)

I Know Lego Kung Fu

Lego Matrix

Forget Bullet Time, now there is Lego Time, or at least the Lego version of the Bullet Time dodge scene from The Matrix. The difference between the two (other than the use of Lego) is the amount of time to film it — 440 hours in this case.

In every other respect, it is an exact replica of the scene, which their side-by-side comparison. If anything the Neo Lego Miniman may have been slightly more expressive than Keanu Reeves.

Geeks really do make the best fans, and these guys embrace it. From their FAQ:
Q. You guys have too much free time.
A. This is not a question. However, we do hear this a lot. All you have to do is borrow some of the time that would otherwise be spent sleeping.
I hear that. (Link via Neatorama)

Total Eclipse Of The Lego

I really can't stand Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart, but I really love things being recreated in Lego. I'm indifferent about all-male choral groups, so I'm torn about posting this. Watch it with the sound off, perhaps? (Link via College Humor)

Harry Potter And The Office Of Unemployment

Harry Potter and the Office of Unemployment

As the Harry Potter movies get darker, so do the parodies. This time round, a wizard runs off with everyone's tuition money and Hogwarts is turned into condos, forcing Harry and his classmates to hit streets looking for work.

Emomelon Days

Emomelon Days from Dan Meth on Vimeo.

Emomelon days are lonely, 'cause the world is so phony. Such sad, gloomy watermelons. I just don't even know how to describe how wonderfully weird this video is. From the twisted mind of Dan Meth.

Not By The Hair Of My Stop Motion Chin

A Wolf Loves Pork is a stunning piece of stop motion animation, using photos, by Takeuchi Taijin that really has to be seen to be believed. At first I thought, yeah, I could do that. But very quickly I saw there wasn't a chance in hell I could do that. (Link via Neatorama)

Lego Silence Of The Lambs

Buffalo Bill and Catherine singing Put the Fucking Lotion in the Basket from Silence of the Lambs, as Lego characters. Doesn't get any weirder than that. I love pop culture. (Link via JazJaz)

Old Russian Proverb: When Zombie Attack, Wise Man Get Shotgun

Alex Poutiainen is the filmmaking poster boy for the recession. For a mere $24 and six days of shooting he made a seven-minute, stop-motion zombie short called Zoo of the Dead. Twenty-four bucks! I've spent that much on popcorn at a movie. At that price he could make a full-length feature for $300. You couldn't film one second of the recently leaked X-Men Origins: Wolverine with that kind of budget.

Admittedly, it doesn't have the quirkiness of his previous work, Rise and Fall of Nazi Dinosaurs and the camera work started to make me nauseous, I can't wait to see what he does next.

Rise And Fall Of The Nazi Dinosaurs

There are Nazis and dinosaurs, all in old-timey stop motion animation. What's not to love? U.S. paratroopers explore a desolate German research lab in Antarctica and discover, well, the title kind of sums it up.

Produced in five days by Alex Poutianinen for the grand total of $20. He's looking for work in the film industry but he should be looking for financial backers. If they are going to greenlight a Jane Austen zombie flick, why not a Nazi Jurassic Park?

Springfield: Brick By Brick

I have no idea how it took so long for somebody to create the entire opening scene of The Simpsons in Lego, but it has arrived. Add it to the live opening and the guy who can play the theme on his guitar.

Hot Chair-on-Chair Action

Roof Sex is a short, stop-motion animation film that is intensely graphic, but probably not anywhere near how you might think. I went to the director's site — eatPES — looking for something else this just grabbed me. More cushion for the pushin', if you will.

Full Metal Rudolph, The Reinfather & A Pack of Gifts Now

The stop animation of the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas special always creeped me out Maybe it was the way they moved or the large, dead eyes. But what doesn't put me in the Christmas spirit does lend itself to parody.

Full Metal Rudolph is a wonderful mashup of one of my favourite films, Stanly Kuberick's Full Metal Jacket, with Rudolph. The scene has Senior Drill Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman tearing a new one for the elves.

Awhile back MAD TV aired a few Rudolph parodies, done by animator Corky Quakenbush. The Reinfather captures some of the best of The Godfather, with Rudolph as Brando, Hermey the Misfit Elf as his lieutenant. "This one time, Clarice, I'll let you ask about my business..."

A Pack of Gifts Now summarizes Apocalypse Now in a tidy four and a half minutes, with Rudolph as Captain Willard and Santa as Colonel Kurtz. Santa has gone mad and is giving toys away for free.

"Saskatchewan. Shoot. I'm still in Saskatchewan... the ho ho horror!"

Can’t See the Forest for the Cure

The Forest is the best song The Cure ever recorded. This revelation came to me when it played on my iPod while sitting up at the cottage, which is not a very Cure-ish place to be.

That would be typical of my relationship with The Cure. I never looked much like Robert Smith, I didn’t dye my hair black or wear eyeliner and lipstick (ok, maybe once). But I was a huge fan in high school despite not buying into the look. I wore a tour shirt (the Kissing Tour, I think) and had a couple of goth kids (well, that’s what you’d call them know) came up and challenged me, figuring I was a poser. When I ended my list of Cure albums by telling them about my vinyl import copy of the British-only release of Three Imaginary Boys, they walked away apologizing.

The Cure was one of my pop culture obsessions – there have been many: The Simpsons, They Might Be Giants, parody films, etc. – and I went full-on collector on them. Singles, posters, interview discs (remember them?) But back to The Forest, which captures them at their gloomy best. Of course don’t take my word for it, watch it above, recreated in Lego.

Pop culture mashups and YouTube – my new obsession.
