How-To Guide To Kill A Monster

Print this out and hang it on your wall for quick reference. It contains important information, especially regrading monster's nards. (Wolfman's Got Nards by Dave Perillo)

Edward Scissorhands: Delight in Paper Chains

My last posting from Gallery 1988's Crazy 4 Cult show is May Ann Licudine's Delight in Paper Chains, which is wonderfully whimsical. You can see all of May's process here and be sure to check out all the artwork at the gallery. I have found some great new artists to follow.

Come And Play With Us, Danny

Hello Danny. Come and play with us. Come and play with us, Danny. Forever... and ever... and ever.

Scenes from The Shining is a popular subject at this year's Gallery 1988 Crazy for Cult show. Above: Come Play With Us by Israel Sanchez.

"My girls, sir, they didn't care for the Overlook at first. One of them actually stole a pack of matches, and tried to burn it down. But I 'corrected' them sir. And when my wife tried to prevent me from doing my duty, I 'corrected' her. "

Above: A Father's Duty by Audrey Pongracz. To this day this movie scares the crap out of me.

"Danny, I'm coming! Come out, come out, where ever you are." Above: The Caretaker by Lucas Gluesenkamp.

Unusual Suspects

"Keaton always said, 'I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him.' Well I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me is Keyser Soze."

Augie Pagan takes on one of my favourite movies, The Usual Suspects and recreates in for Gallery 1988's Crazy 4 Cult show, making reference to past movies that some of the actors have been in. I think these are the six: Willow, Che, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Wolfman, Cool World and Excalibur.

So hand me the keys, you fucking cocksucker.

Welcome To Hill Valley, California

Seems like a pleasant enough place to raise a family. Certainly not a place you'd be hit on by your future mother. No sir.
"Being a huge fan of Mad Men-type retro advertising, I thought it'd be fun to create my very own magazine ad promoting the town of Hill Valley, circa 1955. I wanted to make it as convincing as possible while still hinting at the influence of Marty's visit to his future home town of the past. I'm not sure that even makes sense, but you kinda get the picture. The Delorean is pretty obvious sign, but there's also one subtle hint that Marty was there. Can anyone guess what it is?"
(Eric Tan's print for Crazy 4 Cult 4, opening July 9, 2010 at Gallery1988)

The Breakfast Fight Club

This would be one hell of a crossover and I can totally see The Breakfast Club kids falling under Tyler Durden's sway. Stupid kids. I can also see at least seven movie references.
Brian Johnson: That's seven including when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet.
Richard Vernon: Now it's eight. You stay out of this.
Brian Johnson: Excuse me sir, it's seven.
Not sure why Vernon has gigantic breast, but no matter. (The Breakfast Fight Club by Dave MacDowell Studios for Gallery 1988's Crazy 4 Cult 4 show.)

Guns. Lots Of Guns

Can you name the cult movies these 40 weapons came from? If so, does Crazy 4 Cult have a contest for you. The cult movie art show opens today at Gallery 1988 and I wish I could be there to see it, but at least they will be displaying the artworks online.

Come on Toronto, someone open something similar, or bring the show here.
