Pop artist James Cauty's work Splatter repurposes classic Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera cartoons and gives them a Sin City-style blood spatter makeover, "presenting the viewer with unrelenting acts of bloody, cartoon violence, which, in cartoon law, ultimately cannot cause fatal injury."

The idea came from the Cauty's 15-year-old son who suggested his dad show the violence that cartoons leave out. "People have been saying since the ‘60s that cartoons should show the consequences of violence, or kids will get the wrong idea," Cauty told the Telegraph.


"Its very difficult to shock kids these days - you have cartoon characters being shot in the head and walking off cliffs, so we have decided to replace them with something more realistic."

If He Catches You, You're Through

Road Runner, the coyote's after you. And if you catch him, you're through, Carnivorous depresius.

Anyone know where this image is from? I've been scouring the interwebs trying to source it, but to no avail. It has the look of Family Guy, but doesn't appear to be. I found it on Nick McGlynn, but there was no attribution.

This is something I'm noticing a lot of tumble blogs — they often have cool designs and cool finds, but they are often a little lax about the giving credit, beyond the site they first found it on, which drives me crazy. I know I'm not creating anything original here, but I love sharing what I find and telling others where to find more.

If Cartoons Were Real

Seeing cartoons characters as they would like in real life is, well, disturbing. This photo-realistic Homer Simpson is from jaxpixeloo, and I would run in terror from him if I were to see him on the street.


Good news, everybody! A realistic version of a few of the Futurama cast, from Dylan Marvin. I think the year 3000 would be... all glory to the Hypnotoad.


A realistic Wile E. Coyote (Road-Runnerus Digestus) and Roadrunner (Accelleratti Incredibusc) wouldn't be so bad, but the Acme products would be devastating. From an old Fark contest, where there are many other examples.


Michael Paulus also takes the concept of real cartoons but approaches it from a whole other angle and showing the skeletal system of 22 different characters. Wonderfully odd.
