Art on Our Walls:: We're So Sketch.

So, I didn't mean for two pieces of my artwork to land back to back on this series. But we have a lot of artwork by me in this house, so it's bound to happen.

Today I'm showing you a sketch I did a few years ago, that is hanging on our living room gallery wall. I used to sketch with pencils a lot and just like painting landscapes, I miss it. I've been talking to Chris about carving out some time for stuff like that that I just don't do anymore. I know it would really help my creativity and inspiration to work on something that's not for the shop-- it's just a matter of finding the time and energy to do it.

The picture I was sketching from was taken the summer we first started dating. I love the memories this brings back of that sweet summer when we first fell in love. That's what I think about whenever I glance at it on the wall.

Got any artwork that makes you nostalgic? What about artwork created by you? And also, I can't be the only one who needs to jump back into my old favorite hobbies, right?

Walks with Chris.

Several nights a week, Chris and I delay washing the dishes from dinner and we talk a walk at sunset.

Those are some of my favorite times together.

Sometimes we talk.

Sometimes we just walk.

But there are always the plumerias. We rarely go for a walk without Chris picking up a freshly fallen plumeria for my hair.

The other night while we were out we had to outrun a 'liquid sunshine' shower.

And we were rewarded with a huge double rainbow and the fragrance of plumerias on the breeze.

Malasadas, Dragon Maki and Some Awesome Shorts.

Last week, Chris' buddy, Joel, came out to visit for part of our stay-cation. The surf report predicted a big swell and he came in for three days just for the surf. Friday was his last evening with us, so we hopped in the car and headed to the west side of the island for a sunset picnic.

Of course, we had to stop and pick up some sushi for dinner and hot, fresh cinnamon sugar malasadas from Leonard's for dessert.  If you haven't had malasadas, you are seriously missing out, my friends.

This is my very favorite sushi, Dragon Maki. It might look nasty but it is so.freaking.good. I crave it all the time. Heck, I'm craving it right now.

The guys were more concerned with the waves than the sunset or my picture taking.

Isn't the pattern on these shorts awesome? They make me happy.

Also, I'm getting tons of life out of my fedoras by switching out the bands with headbands and fabric swatches around the house.

They're gonna have to drag me kicking and screaming from this island.

PS. Got some new paintings in the shop, including a relisted Sweetheart Tree and a brand new Dahlias that I think you will love!

Eat, Sleep, Play.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it went down last week. Eat, sleep, play. And I took a lot of photos so I'm going to bombard you with them today (and maybe for the next week or two.)

Fourth of July was a blast. Har har. No, but really, it was a great day. We woke up bright and early for a morning surf session which ended up just being a "paddle around in the warm salt water and sunshine" session since there were absolutely no waves.

Fine by me.

We made our way into town well before the start of fireworks to avoid traffic. We wasted time people watching in the mall (and making up ridiculous life scenarios for every person) and popped in to a local grill for some crab and artichoke dip while we waited for the sun to dip lower in the sky.

Our view for the fireworks was incredible.

{linking up to sweet shot tuesdays for this one above!)

The rest of the week was filled with...

beach time.

duh.

Driving around the island.

(where I made Chris stop every few miles so I could get out and take pictures.)

He's a good sport.

A stop at the Haleiwa Farmer's Market.

We picked up the most amazingly fresh and delicious pesto... heaven in a jar.

Also, I got yelled at by a woman at the orchid booth for taking photos. She was not nice.

We ate tons of delicious food all week too...

... including penang curry and spicy papaya salad that we made from scratch using the recipes from our cooking school in Thailand.

It was way better than anything I've eaten in restaurants. So, so good.

I think I fancy stay-cations.

Psst... just added my blog to BlogLovin. If you're on there, make sure to follow me!

Funnel Cakes, Ferris Wheels & Fedoras

Friday was our five year dating anniversary and also the first Friday since Chris got back, so we made a date out of it and headed to the 50th state fair!

What is it about fried dough and sugar that makes me just go crazy??

We rode a bunch of fun rides-- my favorite had to be the swings. We also rode on the Sizzler-- you know, the ride that spins you around in circles at outrageous speeds? Yeah, that was the fastest Sizzler I've ever been on. Chris and I were wondering if it was malfunctioning because the skin was pretty much peeling off our faces.

We had a blast though and I have to say, nothing beats a date night with the love of my life. I'm gonna be gushy on here for a while, just as a warning. It's just so good to have him home.

Oh Happy Day.

 Giddy.

Excited.

 Running Late.

I was all those things on Monday morning when Chris' ship pulled in. Yeah, my friend, Krynn and I were just parking when we heard the cacophony of horns announcing the arrival of his ship into the pier.

 Whoops.

So I slipped off my purple heels and we booked it. And boy, my heart leapt when I saw the bow of his ship slipping into place and I found my love on the deck, searching for me in the crowd.

We've perfected silent conversations when he has to stand up in his uniform. He was cracking me up.

Chris in all his bingo winning prowess, won First Kiss, so after the captain and the new dads came off, he got to come out before everyone else. And what a blessing that was, because man, it is so hard to wait for them to get off that stinkin' ship.

My very favorite. I'm going to frame this one. It just makes my heart flutter.

Yes, I bought him a lei to coordinate with my outfit. Um, duh.

I love having him home.

Yep, that's the same post title I used for our homecoming pics post last year-- it's just so appropriate. If you haven't had enough gushy homecoming pictures-- check out last year's here.
