Local church sign doesn't go far enough

Murfreesboro church sign calls Obama a nut?

Some controversy and a lot of comments and talk have been generated by the above church sign which implies that Obama is a 'nut.' It has brought up questions concerning churches and their 'tax exempt' status and whether it is off limits for them to publicly express political positions.

Personally, I think that churches have not been political enough and that they have failed in much of their mission. Specifically, they most always go along with any war that the government and media lies us into.

Where were/are these 'Christians' when it comes to the killing of innocents in foreign lands along with our own sons and daughters we call the 'hero' troops. There's been over one million who died in Iraq, an ever escalating number in Afghanistan and potentially who knows how many more in the 'neverending wars' of the American empire and I've never heard of a church sign questioning the morality or necessity of the deaths.

It's a deep failure of Christianity to not overcome the propaganda of war and to not live up to the basic tenets of the faith.

The U.S. soldiers who are dying in vain are coming from the same community that may question certain aspects of our criminal government but most always leave out the most heinous of their crimes; the lies and deceptions of war.

Rutherford Co. soldier dies in action in Afghanistan

For the second time in two weeks, a Rutherford County family, friends and a community is mourning the loss of a son killed in action in Afghanistan.

Spc. Russell S. Hercules Jr., 22, of Murfreesboro was killed in action Thursday in Afghanistan by small arms fire, according to reports.

(The Hercules couple) recently married and have a beautiful 4-month-old son. {more}

Bury your dead Christians. Talk about how they 'sacrificed' for you. Continue with your meanderings about health care, ACORN and the like but don't get into the criminality of our foreign policy. You've been brainwashed to think that murder and profiteering from wars is justified.

Take down your sign Bellwood Baptist Church and pray for guidance. These are your wars and you do nothing to stop them. You could but I'm afraid that you won't.
